Department Overview
The Code Enforcement Division of the Building Permits & Inspection Department is charged with the duty of ensuring every building and yard in every neighborhood is maintained at a quality consistent with community standards and expectations. The division is responsible for enforcing City ordinances in an effort to promote and protect the public health, safety, and welfare of those individuals living, working, and doing business in Michigan City. Effective code enforcement needs the cooperation of every property owner and all tenants to build stable neighborhoods and community pride.
