How We Serve
The Sanitary Board consists of up to five members, with four members appointed to four-year terms by the Mayor and with the City Engineer serving by virtue of his/her office. A salary of $3,600 is paid annually to appointees for serving this board.
Meetings: 4:00 PM on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Sanitary District’s Administration Building, located at 1100 E. 8th Street.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Sanitary Board is given the custody, administration, operation and maintenance of the sewage disposal and treatment plant of the City, together with all appurtenances, intercepting sewers, and necessary real estate, leases, franchises, easements and property rights necessary for the complete and efficient operation of the sewage disposal and treatment plant. The Sanitary Board also provides oversight related to stormwater/drainage issues within Michigan City and oversight of the Refuse Department.
