The Planning & Zoning Department supports the growth and development of Michigan City by guiding land use, redevelopment, and community planning efforts. The department oversees zoning regulations, reviews development projects, and works to ensure that neighborhoods and business districts thrive. Through planning initiatives, zoning enforcement, and redevelopment support, the department promotes a balanced, sustainable future for residents, businesses, and visitors. The department also works closely with the Economic Development Corporation Michigan City (EDCMC) to drive business growth and investment across the community.

The Economic Development Corporation of Michigan City (EDCMC) is committed to fostering a thriving community.

The City Support Department serves as a central hub for essential administrative and operational functions that keep Michigan City running smoothly.

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is a federally funded grant program that provides communities with resources to address a wide range of needs for low to moderate income persons.

The Planning Commission consists of up to nine members, appointed to four-year terms.

The Redevelopment Department is dedicated to urban renewal and economic growth, using acquisition, clearance, disposition of land, and public improvements to reclaim blighted land for new development.

The Redevelopment Commission oversees the City of Michigan City Department of Redevelopment.
