St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Presented annually by community volunteers in March
This parade is planned and executed by volunteers from the community and is supported by the City of Michigan City. Details for the next parade will be posted as we receive them.


Easter Egg Hunt

Presented annually in March or April by the Michigan City Police Department
The Michigan City Police Department hosts its annual Easter Egg Hunt in Fedder's Alley in Washington Park for children ages 0-12 years. 

Parking is available in Washington Park on a first come, first served basis. Additional parking can be found at City Hall, the Court House and on the streets of downtown.

Thanks to the generosity of local businesses and supporters, this event is free and open to the public.

Kiddie Parade

Presented annually in June by the Michigan City Police Department
The Michigan City Police Department hosts the annual "Summertime Christmas" Kiddie Parade for children ages 0-12 on Franklin Street beginning at 7th Street and ending in front of the library. Trophies and ribbons are awarded by a host of celebrity judges, including the Grand Marshal's, Mr & Mrs. Santa Clause.

Categories include:

  • Costumed Individuals (0-5 years)
  • Costumed Individuals (6-12 years)
  • Decorated Wagons
  • Decorated Bikes
  • Pets (with costumed individual)
  • Organized Groups under 15 members
  • Organized Groups over 15 members

Parking is available in the LaPorte County Courthouse Parking Lot and along the downtown side streets.

Fourth of July Patriotic Parade

Presented annually in July, coordinated by the Parks & Recreation Department
The City's annual Fourth of July Patriotic Parade is held on a Saturday in July closest to the July 4th Independence Day holiday. The parade route runs along Franklin Street and includes floats from local community groups and organizations as well as entertainment from around the region. Awards are presented in several categories for community entries.

This event is free and open to the public. Parking is available along the parade’s side streets, free of charge.

Fourth of July Spectacular Fireworks Show

Presented annually on July 4th by the City
The City of Michigan City's Fourth of July Spectacular Fireworks Show begins at sundown on July 4th in Washington Park. The fireworks can be viewed from any of the City's 1.9 miles of beachfront, in Washington Park or in the City's Uptown Arts District.

Parking is available in Washington Park on a first come, first served basis. Additional parking can be found at City Hall, the Courthouse and on the streets of downtown.

This event is free and open to the public.


Great Lakes Grand Prix

Presented annually in August by the LaPorte County Convention and Visitors Bureau and
supported by the City

The City of Michigan City is proud to partner with the LaPorte County Convention and Visitors Bureau to host the Great Lakes Grand Prix as part of the Super Boat International Offshore Racing Series. The time trials and race along this five-mile course can be viewed from Michigan City's beachfront in Washington Park.

Racers, team members and boat owners offer unique perspectives on what it’s like to ride on one of these mammoth watercrafts in the Dry Pits/Race Village. VIPs get even more one-on-one time with the competitors at the VIP parties, brunch and banquet. Spectators can get up close and personal with the mighty boats throughout the weekend while also enjoying live music and offerings from local food and merchant vendors. A boat parade down Franklin Street through the Taste of Michigan City is held in the evening on the Saturday of Grand Prix weekend.

Parking in Washington Park during this event is extremely limited. Additional parking can be found at City Hall, the Courthouse and on the streets of downtown. There is also free parking and shuttle service from Blue Chip Casino, Hotel & Spa to Washington Park.

Taste of Michigan City

Presented annually in August by the Michigan City Mainstreet Association and
supported by the City

The City of Michigan City is proud to partner with the Michigan City Mainstreet Association to host the Taste of Michigan City is part of the summer celebrations during the Great Lakes Grand Prix weekend. The Taste of Michigan City showcases local restaurants, breweries, wineries and merchants from around Michigan City as well as entertainment from around the region. 

Parking is available along the downtown side streets, free of charge.

The event is free and open to the public. Offerings from vendors can be purchased at an additional cost.

Snowflake Parade

Presented annually in December by the Michigan City Fire Department
The Snowflake Parade is hosted annually on the first Saturday in December by the Michigan City Fire Department on Franklin Street beginning at 10th Street and ending in front of the library.  Santa will be on site, collecting Christmas lists and spreading good cheer. Following the parade, hot coco and cookies are served along with a ceremonial the lighting of the Christmas tree.
